Some lessons are best learned with your hands in the dirt, your ears filled with music, and your feet on unfamiliar ground.

Grade 7 students recently had exactly that kind of experience during their Bandung field trip, a journey designed to bring culture, creativity, and community to life in ways a classroom simply cannot replicate. From shaping bamboo crafts and playing angklung to dyeing fabric through shibori, preparing local foods, and trekking through nature, each activity invited students to engage with Indonesian heritage in a direct and personal way.

There is something that shifts in a student when they make something with their own hands. The angklung doesn't just become an instrument they read about — it becomes a sound they produced, a rhythm they were part of. That kind of embodied learning stays.

The trip closed with a visit to MI Hidayaturrohman, where students participated in a service activity that brought their CAS values full circle. Creativity, activity, and service are not just boxes to tick — they are a way of moving through the world, and this trip gave students a chance to practice all three in one place.

We are proud of how our Grade 7 students showed up, not just as learners, but as curious, empathetic young people ready to engage with the world around them.
